Irma Johnson is a multi-talented award-winning film and stage director, writer, and producer, renowned for her dynamic presence both on stage and screen. As a comedienne and actress, she has captivated audiences nationally and internationally, bringing laughter and thought-provoking performances to countless venues. Alongside her husband, Johnny Johnson, Irma is the founder and owner of J-IRM Productions, 2 Can Productions, and Irma’s Divine Inspirations. Irma’s journey began in the Cleaborn Homes projects of South Memphis, where she learned that love, success, and wealth are not measured in dollars and cents but in the impact one has on their community. Her early years were marked by academic excellence and a drive to reach higher grounds. She embarked on her entertainment career as a secular comic, earning a reputation for her knee-slapping, toe-tapping, quick wit, and gut-busting comedy that left audiences in stitches. Irma’s spiritual awakening came early, though she momentarily strayed from the path. God’s revelation of her gift led her to rededicate her life to Christ, using her talents for His glory. Her dedication to her faith saw her return to Macedonia M.B. Church, where she established the Triple MG (Macedonia Mercy Ministry Group), featuring drama and praise dance ministries. With the blessings of her esteemed Pastor, Dr. T.L. McCray, and her spiritual father, she later joined St. Luke M.B. Church in Dundee, MS, where Pastor McKinley Daley appointed her as Youth Coordinator and Tech Advisor. Irma’s career is decorated with numerous credits, including multiple seasons on BET’s Comic View, performances on military bases around the world, and roles in notable films such as "Cast Away" and "Soul Men." As a playwright, Irma has written, directed, and produced a series of impactful stage plays, including "It Ain’t Your Feelings, It’s Your Faith," "Jesus Is Calling…Will You Answer?" and "Who Killed the Church?"Her latest project, "My Life Matters," is a powerful stage play aimed at African American teens in Memphis, TN, who are dealing with the emotional stress of daily life. Directed by Irma, this play serves as a rallying cry, reminding young individuals that their lives hold immense value and significance.Irma Johnson’s mission is to use the arts to foster spiritual growth, unity, and positive social change. Her dedication to providing spiritual guidance and moral consciousness through her productions continues to inspire and uplift communities.
